A tooth extraction is the process of carefully removing a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. Extractions are carried out when a tooth is too damaged or problematic to be saved with other treatments such as a filling, crown, or root canal.
When Do You Need a Tooth Extraction?
You may need an extraction if:
A tooth is badly decayed and beyond repair
Gum disease has caused severe mobility in the tooth
A tooth has fractured below the gumline
A wisdom tooth is impacted, infected, or painful
Teeth are overcrowded before orthodontic treatment
An abscess or infection cannot be resolved with other treatments
The Tooth Extraction Process
Assessment
Our dentists will examine your mouth and may take X-rays to plan the safest approach. we may suggest bone grafting or referral to our in house oral surgeon
Anaesthetic
The area is numbed with local anaesthetic, ensuring you remain comfortable throughout.
Extraction
The tooth is carefully loosened and removed. In some cases, such as wisdom teeth or complex fractures, a surgical approach may be needed.
Aftercare
We provide full instructions on how to look after the site, manage discomfort, and encourage healing. Stitches may be required for some surgical extractions.

When should I contact the dentist after an extraction?
